ALTAFF The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF) is a division of the American Library Association (ALA) with approximately 5,000 Friends of Library, Trustee, Foundation and individual members and affiliates representing hundreds of thousands of library supporters. Begun in early 2009 with the merger of Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) and ALTA, the new division brings together Trustees and Friends into a partnership that unites the voices of citizens who support libraries to create a powerful force for libraries in the 21st Century. Library Advocate's Handbook The Library Advocate's Handbook covers basic techniques that work, whether you are seeking an increase in funding, campaigning for a new building or dealing with controversy on social networking or the USA PATRIOT Act. Empire Friends of New York State Roundtable The Empire Friends Roundtable was formed in 1992 as a direct result of the White House Conference on Library and Information Services. This conference confirmed the ever-increasing importance of libraries, and stressed the need for active support from the nonprofessional community. In short, libraries need FRIENDS as never before. And finally, if you wish to post to this Listserv to open a discussion, find some help, or ask questions of your colleagues, email a message to friends@lists.suffolk.lib.ny.us. Thank you all for coming and for your active interest in libraries. We have not been able to increase our membership significantly over the last few years through communications with former members. Can you please let me know if you have had any successful methods that you can share, or any incentives that you have used to increase membership? Thank you.
